Mehhnnn

Staring at Vibe DJ application, although I should be staring at poems by Wilfred Owen. Asks to list 20 songs u'd play. I'll list ten for blog's sake. To protect my musical tastes from attack let me just say that all my songs are backed up on Brad's computer, so if you don't like these I'm sure there's something in my playlist you'll bob your head to.

DJ Drixxx's Mixxxes (to be played in order, with occasional shout-outs and big ups to the House 77 crew)

1) Pigeon John -
Hello Everybody
2) Broken Social Scene - Almost Crimes
3) Brand New - Mix Tape
4) Head Automatica - Beating Heart Baby
5) Soul Coughing - I Miss the Girl
6) The Mars Volta - Cicatriz ESP
7) Beastie Boys - Sabotage
8) Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade
9) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss
10) RJD2 - Iced Lightning

My mic will have an echo effect like DJ Clue, and Funkmaster Flex, putting much needed emphasis on every word. "This!...th-this...Is!..i-is...a-a-A!...UTM!...u-u-utm...Exclusive!!!... e-ex-exclusive.."

So I have more or less worked out my timetable for fourth year...I have basically been forced to take every last class. So much for the "select from" that supposedly exists in my calendar. They aren't offering four courses that I WANT to take, from the looks of things. Oh well....second term I don't have class till noon at the earliest, that is fucking awesome, although it's on a Friday, but whatever, t'aint no PSY100 at 9am on a Friday for two hours. God that was brutal. But yah, I want a lil more choice with VCC, I have absolutely none, deadly serious.

Time for the thought of the Day:

I just saw the movie Paycheck. Yadda yadda...okay flick, neat concept - a lil too much like Minority Report for my liking though (someone let me know if its based on stuff by the same author? I have a sneaky feeling it is). Anyway. It has this time-viewing device that works on the concept that if you power a laser enough it will warp the universe and bend around it like it were a sphere (neverending in other words) which means when it comes back around the other side time has passed and yadda yadda you can see into the future.

So, my thought of the Day is - if you want to really mislead people about what your point is to confuse and shock them - possibly even make them laugh - write at least a paragraph about something completely unrelated to what you are discussing, and then BAM hit em with the truth.

ok i gots lots of pseudo-news tonight.

first off, i saw
Saved! the other day, and i actually enjoyed it quite a bit. it was definitely a refreshing look at faith after passion of the christ.

last night, i saw something hilarious on the Game Show Network. "GSN's Extreme Dodgeball is the real life inspiration for our new favourite Vince Vaughn comedy. check out the rules. man that brings me back to elementary school gym class.

then, i noticed that techTV has finally become "cool". they have this new show called Arena, this show is like exactly what andy and i were talking about the other day. basically it's a multiplayer video game tournament where teams play a variety of games to win pretty cool prizes. today the games they played included Call of Duty, and Socom 2 for the PS2.

and finally, i remember hearing about this project way back and it seems that they've finally got a release date for their debut album. "Head Automatica" as they're called is Daryl Palumbo from GlassJAw fame, and Dan "The Automator" Nakamura. i've been a fan of GlassJAw for quite awhile now, but i'm seriously impressed with the freebies these guys have posted. their full-length debut comes out august 10th apparently.

that's it for now. peace.

WTF!!! That is the first time that I saw one I didnt want in well over two years. SO disappointed. *sigh*

(Added post, a Post-post if you will)
Speaking of Soul Coughing,
Mike Doughty has a solo career. No surprise right? But the tracks on site sound like folk music. No problem right? we're all folks. No no like folk music man. Its cool he calls it, "small rock". Check out Grey Ghost. I think anything sung by this dude sounds amazing, kinda like the opposite of the William Hung effect.

I just watched Mystic River. Bill Murray got fucking robbed at the Oscars.
Here are my thoughts:

The script was awful. I admit, I have no idea what a group of childhood friends from Boston would stay to one another in the circumstances that the film portrays. But capturing the plight of a torn father, the writing lacks conviction and humanity. The only well written character is Tim Robbins', who seems to convincingly capture a sexually abused child. The film lacks an overall character development for the entire cast and jerks the audience around with what we would believe the personality of Sean Penn's character is.

The acting was as good as it could get with the bad script writing. Tim Robbins did a fantastic job, as did Tom Guiry as Brendan Harris. The rest of the cast just had such terribly written scripts that I don't feel they had enough to work with. Laurence Fishburne and the two actors playing the Savage brothers were completely lifeless and uncompelling. And seriously...DEVINE?? I think that Clint Eastwood has acted in too many bad cop movies and wanted a campy name like Devine for his lead cop role.

And that brings me to my biggest complaint: The directing. Clint Eastwood SUCKS. I am sorry, he gives no room for the actors to act, he is all about sweeping shots meant to capture some overall bullshit metaphor about the river that has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FILM.

This is the same crap that Hollywood loves to make - predictable plots, stereotyped characters, supposedly universal themes of family, life and death, and finally, god awful directing that gets attention purely out of star power.

Go and see Lost in Translation if you want to see how humans actually live. See Mystic River if you want to compare something to all the bad jokes about cop movies - which ultimately this is.

It seems that lately I have been bombarded by a plethora of new music that my mind simply cannot keep up with. The latest to enter my fray is The Killers - I heard their lead single Somebody Told Me on the Edge and was really interested, so I found their album Hot Fuss and am really enjoying it. Its very synth-pop but has some great guitar playing and the overall sound is very satisfying and diverse (listen to All These Things I've Done and compare it to Somebody Told Me or Midnight Show and just try to tell me they sound the same) but cohesive. The vocals are wicked and very 80s, but then again the entire album is very 80s, while still being distinctively modern. I really, really like it, although "Andy, You're a Star" is a lil too melodramatic for my liking, its the only less than stellar song. Get it people!

*wipes sweat off brow*

Officially in the IR supject post. This calls for a real meal and beer. I guess last night could count as a celebration (Paul that martini was shite! But much respect for trying something new). Gya. That's all to report. Oh yea, sauga bike paths are sick. There's something about blasting through pitch black trails that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. In puter news, the dog is dead, I've commandeered Andy's Astonishing Alto to supply my fixes.

Work in a few. Where is everyone? We need to discuss some business. Guys, all homosexual jokes aside, can we go camping? Please, please, please? That's three pleases, I really wanna go. I don't ask for much, just a camping trip... and a chocolate sundae.

- - - RAGING ALCOHOLIC BOY DRUNK REPORT - - -
Wow. I cannot believe that I am still tipsy even now in Caledon freaking East. Like....1.5 hours after I left Madisons, maybe even 2 hours later, and I am still not capable of typing properly. My mom even came to open the front door because I had so much trouble opening it and made too much noise, haha. Wow. So drunk. Had a Martini for the very first time - I think I found myself a new love. I call it - a dry vodka martini. I should have asked for shaken not stirred but oh well. Good times. Rob's bday. Lots of alcohol. Lots of good times. Not so much Joanna, which is disappointing. But good times nonetheless. So much alcohol. How am I still drunk? haha wow. This is the first time I've come home THIS trashed. Had like....three strongbow, a guiness, a stella, two martinis, two shots...two...somethings. I dont even know. Im trashed. God damn.

On the drive home we discussed religion and time. Seriously - have you ever thought that time is just a construct that we as a species created? Its just the movement of matter that is based on the rotation of our planet around our star. Its totally biased. Any other planet will have a totally different concept of time. It's insane. Time. Wow. I feel like I'm high but I'm not. I'm drunk. So good to be drunk. So hard to type. So hard to put down coherent thoughts. Wish Joanna came. That is about the biggest thought on my head. Next to the fact that I should drink water if I dont want a major hangover tomorrow. That'll be a disaster tomorrow. Jesse was interested in a LAN But was smart enough not to come over. Probably a good plan. Wow. So drunk. SO GOOD. Madison's rocked my world yet again. (albeit at like twice the price of Phil's for half the drunkness - then again half of blacking out cant be a bad thing) What IS half of blacking out? I dont know. I dont know much of anything right now. I know alcohol. I KNOW ALCOHOL. That is all. I am Raging Alcoholic Boy signing off.

So, I bought the new Matt Good album...I'll be honest, at first I really wasn't into it. That was throughout the first about 6 tracks. And then after that his awesome lyrical and musical skills won me over. I like it, it's super-different but it has got a strangely simultaneous sarcastic and uplifting tone. Although I think the sarcasm generally bleeds through in the first half of the album - which is perhaps why I prefer the second half. The vocals are far more impressive, the songs much more epic, the melodies more...well...melodic...and second half acts far more cohesively in terms of a theme and sound.

I am not sure what I think about the country-tinged sounds of the hidden track or some of the first few tracks...but then again his style has a lot of roots in country-bluegrass so I suppose it can be expected, and he pulls it off without sounding too much like he's crying over how his dog ran off with his girlfriend and stole his favourite Chevy POS truck.

So this is the first time that I have really wanted to read the various party platforms for an election. Before I really was just dumb and didnt care enough (I still voted but I wasnt particularly well educated on the matter). Well, lemme tell you, reading these platforms...IS AWFUL. DEAR GOD!!!! So convoluted!! The Liberal party's platform is page after page of rhetoric with facts about what they HAVE done but with hardly ANY specific data about what they plan on actually DOING. The other parties are not much better, and it's just plain sickening. I cannot believe that they can waste so many words on just saying that they will make things better without explaining HOW. GAH!

I saw Chronicles of Riddick this evening, pretty good flick. I was worried at the beginning cuz a lot of cheesy lines were being tossed out and...well quite frankly that never stopped, so it lost a couple points for that. And the fact that a barren planet with -300 temperatures on one side and 700 temperatures on the other had a fucking breathable atmosphere puzzled me also, but hey, that is why it's called Science FICTION I suppose.

But yah...I enjoyed it. For some reason, going into the film I thought it was a prequel...so uh...yah...surprise surprise when I discover it continues after Pitch Black left off (sort of). Without spoiling much...necromancers, hot/cold planet, death/gore/specialeffectswowkalafragalisticexpialadocious, uh...yah I have lost my train of thought spelling that shiatsu.

Long story short: (my version of short anyway, cuz you know...I like to talk...a lot) Great special effects, a cool continuation of Pitch Black's storyline and a fairly creative and somewhat unexpected ending make for an enjoyable June weekend movie experiencee. I give it four beers out of a sixer.

...I think I'm going to flip my lid on Internet spam soon. I just got a message in ICQ from some random person saying "Hi there! Why do you keep messaging me? Stop sending me spam!" I checked the info on the person - female, 27 years of age, no other details and a stupid user-name. This means that they are a bot. I hate bots. I hate spam. I sent back an evil message with much swearing and much name-calling. I know that no one reads it. But it makes me feel good.

I also got some 60 spam emails today across my various email accounts today alone. That means I'll recieve nearly 22 000 spam emails in a year if that is about average. Which I figure it is considering I once recieved some 300 in a 24 hour period - wow I hate spam viruses. Wow I hate spam. Dear GOD do people have nothing better to do? Like seriously, I dont think the Internet will ever be devoid of it. It will merely reproduce itself until the entire structure of the Internet eventually collapses from the sheer overload of information being transmitted.

And then the world will blow up.

And Hendrix will be a broken man.

Kickass, I'd like to just direct everyone's attention to
Mac Hall because today's comic has reference to Soul Coughing's Rolling. I thought that was cool. The comic itself for that day is useless but the rest of it is always hilarious, and the art is amazing. Check it out if you haven't already.
Also try:
Penny Arcade
Apple Geeks (you might notice similarity to Mac Hall with these guys...go figure, the artists are in the same art program and are best friends)
Ctrl-Alt-Del
Sam and Fuzzy
VG Cats (from Toronto)

Yah, I read these, and about a dozen more. Webcomics ROCK.

BSS and Sparta...
Lollapalooza sounding extremely yummy (day 1 at least). August 5th it is.

What I would like to happen during the summer:
1) Quit job, get another job that pays major coin (gigolo/professional airbrusher)
2) Do well in the 3 summer classes
3) Go to Lollapalooza
4) persue my interest in girls
5) Cause a lot of trouble in the summer

What will probably happen during the summer:
1) Stay with the Navy because no sane employer would take me in
2) Do well in Sociology of Sex and Sexuality, crash and burn in Reading Poetry and Intellectual Property
3) Not go to Lollapalooza due to poor time management skills, and no money
4) runaway from girls
5) Cause a moderate amount of trouble this summer

Fall,
Fall,
Fall,
Fall,
Fall,
Fall.

Oi. Crazy weekend, long day. Chilled at scarby for a couple of days to party it up with my buddy Lee, he's 22. The following night chilled with elementary school buds for my buddy Cy's birthday, he is also 22. Got pretty sloshed and passed out on his driveway. Got up and played the good son the following day at the folks' then skipped class.

Long day, today another customer asked me to get them a size in a white mid-length capris whilst in their underwear. The descent of decency ladies and gentlemen, it starts in the changing rooms (and ends in the bedroom). After bitching out retail, the mall, and how fuct up shoppers were, I then proceeded to peruse the wide selection of hoodies, video games, and attractive sales ladies at Erin Billz. I bought a foot-long meatball sub and finally filled that bitch of a club card. Yours truly is now entitled to a free 6-inch (15cm) sub with the pruchase of a regular drink, at participating Subways of course.

Call me a light switch, cuz I'm off!

WOO!
Good news everyone! Creed has finally broken up! Why just the other day I heard Scott Staps worst immitation of Eddie Vedder on the radio and shuddered, thinking that their next album surely would be assaulting my poor ears soon enough. But no longer!

I find it ABSOLUTELY HORRIFYING, however, that Stapp is apparently working with Tea Party (that's right...Canada's original answer to Jim Morrison and Eddie Vedder in terms of vocals) to create a solo album. Jeff Martin and Scott Stapp in one room together.

Next thing you know, High Theory of a Nickelfault will become a reality, pigs will fly, Coke will be Pepsi, the sky will be green and I'll go back to being sober!!!!! *shudder* what a terrible world it would be!!

So I uh..."found" a copy of the whole of the new Alexisonfire album Watch Out! Not that I'm unknown for downloading albums - before people accuse me of not giving them the money that they are entitled to, I am gonna buy the album on Tuesday. Why you ask? Well because first of all I totally believed from before I even heard Accidents that the album would be awesome and fully intended to buy it, even without hearing a single track. When I heard Accidents I was even more firmly determined to buy it. And now that I've heard the ALBUM I am well and truly going to buy it.

More Dallas singing, more mature screaming from Logan, more beautiful moodiness in the melodies and harmonies. I love it. Every second of it I love. Buy it!!! ALL OF YOU! BUY BUY BUY!

Okay, I meant to do this last night but I got interrupted by a phone call. I am currently listening to the song entiteld
Accidents by the only band ever!...I mean...Alexisonfire.

In the first...like...ten seconds...it is basically what I have come to expect from Alexisonfire. Bold, dense guitar riffs played at break-neck speed with dark, moody and beautiful melodies and harmonies. Within the first minute the screaming kicks in. It sounds a little more bassy than the self-titled album, but its unmistakably Logan shrieking at the top of his lungs. And then Dallas kicks in with meloncollie melodic singing...and then...what the HELL??? Anthem singing?? Okay, haha, dont get me wrong, I like the band a lot, they are great live, and I in fact am 100% addicted to this song. I listen to it over and over again. But the development they made from their debut to their sophomore is fantastic, its just so much of a shock. I didnt think at all that theyd change that much and yet still be distinctly Alexisonfire, and also come up with more original sounds. I love it. When the album is out, I will definitely buy it.
