soo, jenny and i went to see
sky high yesterday. and honestly, i figured it was gonna be pretty funny, and it definitely delivered. there were a ton of cool people with little parts, including Farva, as, Ron Wilson - Bus Driver. heh. one funny line comes over the P.A. during a lunch time scene, and it goes like this: "Would all sidekicks please stop ordering Hero sandwiches at the cafeteria." heh. superhero humour makes me laugh. i suggest you all check it out when you get a chance. clearly it's not to be taken seriously, but it's good for a light-hearted laugh.

i'm off to the ex tomorrow, then i'm gonna paint my new room over the weekend i think. btw, i call the room next to the living room.

peace.

I want a cottage of my own. Got in from Haliburton last night from an early long weekend. Bunch of the Newman kids decided to head up on Thursday to escape their jobs and city drama.

After attempting to show me how to tread water, Mike and Jamie concluded that I would drown. Their opinion didn't stop me from tearing off my shorts and jumping in the water. I figure whoever found my naked body washed up on shore would have a good laugh. Beach Volleyball skills have yet to show any signs of improvement. Won another poker night. Cleaned out a fridge full of beer as well. Saw a family of bears jaywalking on the way home. Thanks Paula for having us (don't tell Lasko I accidently saw you topless).

The jobhunt starts today. I've been slacking and doing nothing to help myself the latter part of August. I'm not hard on myself for it, seeing as I have never had a summer since the end of 1st year. This summer has more than made up for all the missed parties and barbeques. I'm just hoping it'll be capped off with a decent salary come fall.

I'm not saying we should do something, but I'm saying we should do something!!!

Aight so I have some interesting things to mention in this post, pretty much all about music.

First I shall mention that the new Broken Social Scene is pretty freaking rawking. Like both the first two albums (and I suppose the Bee Hives one too), the songs require many listens to fully appreciate. Right now, I'd say that every track from Fire Eye'd Boy (track 6) basically all the way to the end of the album is just a fantastic trip. Handjobs for the Holidays and Superconnected in particular are winding, unending songs that lead you on and let your mind wander, it's brilliant. I don't know if I would say that this album is better than You Forgot it in People, it's very difficult to say. I don't even know if they've really progressed their sound because really - what IS typical Broken Social Scene? It's pretty damned hard to define. But anyway, all in all, look out for this album!

Another band which is intriguing me at the moment is Windsor for the Derby. I only have their latest album called Giving Up the Ghost...and I don't even know how to describe it. Reviews call it indie-pop, or soft-core, or just some other weird ambiguous genre. Anyway...the first couple listens of this album are...weird. Some of the sounds produced do not sit well in your ears. They almost hurt because of how strange they are. But then the rest of the album is a sublime treat to hear. The Light is On in particular is a beautiful song, and creates a strange atmospheric sound. All the songs create atmosphere though, far more than any other album I can think of, for that matter. The immediately following song called The Gathering is a lot like My Blood Valentine, where The Light is On reminds me almost of Death Cab for Cutie or Coldplay. It's a weird juxtaposition.

I also got the newest Death Cab for Cutie, called Plans. I can't say enough good things about it. It's just awesome song-writing, both lyrically and musically. It seems more focused than the last album did to me. The songs aren't all over the place, they are all very distinct songs, but they have an underlying theme. Anyway just get it...it's awesome.

Finally, DJ Tiesto...I got all of the In Search of Sunrise albums...as well as Nyana now...mmmm sooooo good. I like trance. A lot. But yah, none of the albums are new, I just want to state how awesome the albums are. Especially volume four of In Search of Sunrise. And Nyana for that matter.

hoi hoi pinoy,

Been a fun weekend. Been living at Mike's for the past week. Sleeping on his couch sucked a lot of ass. The day I leave I find out there was a spare mattress upstairs... if it wasn't for Mrs.Rochford's amazing cooking I would have killed someone. I'm home now. My bed rocks but I have nothing yummy to eat. Can't have it all I guess.

The show went swimmingly. We got bitched at by the owner for starting late. Our friend Joe fixed it up and made it so we got paid. I would have been content playing for beers. The owner was not impressed when I asked for a freebie. The night was wicked. It was a reunion of sorts where I saw my different social circles mix and mingle. Family met high school friends, who met childhood friends, who met ex-girlfriends, who met ex-girlfriends, who met UTM kids, who met my sister's friends, who met Mike's family, who met random drunk guys dancing to our music. My cousin
Jay has pics on his blog. Jona as pics on her blog as well. The party we were gonna hit ended early, we drank in front of our old school instead and passed around a backpack of beer. I also won some cash the following day at Jay's poker tourney. Go me.

Finally gave h77 some new threads. I figure 77 being on the same continent was just cause for celebration in the form of new layout. If I missed you on the links just comment or email. Comments are reset, so we'll need everyone to go through the archives and re-enter your witty remarks. I got a few more things to change up until 2.1 is fully up. I hope the bandwidth gods are forgiving and let the content through to ur screens.

2 weeks ago I decided to bite the bullet and look for a job. Not one related to school, but one that would pay off OSAP and fund my weekend lapdances. A means to an end. I applied to Timothy's, EB Games, and a Deli beside my house. They are all located side by side. Last week I got interviewed by Timothy's. It went well and was offered a job. The following day EB Games calls me for an interview. They don't have a backroom or office, so the manager takes me to Timothy's and interviews me there. I was trying not to make eye contact with the ppl from Timothy's and basically answered EB's questions slouched behind a counter facing the exit. I turned down Timothy's with the hope that I get to play at EB. I've done the cafe thing already.

*plays Feist, Mushaboom

An aside. I had a dream that I borrowed one of Feist's CDs (compact discs) and she was mad that I didn't return it. She was even madder when she finally came by to my house to pick it up.

Aight so
this is a stop-gap solution for the time being, but it shows off forty of the best photos I took during the six weeks we were gone.

They aren't quite in order, but they have titles explaining basically what each is. These are of course just adapted so you can view them with a quick download. If you want any of the full versions (between 900kb-1.2Mb) feel free to ask for them and I can send via MSN or email. And of course I have many others. I took 1800 photos over the whole trip. Some are crap, some are mediocre. These are definitely the best. But that isn't to say that others aren't good. Just not THAT good.

Anyway enjoy.

ok. i'm tired. as paul noted it feels like about 3am. i think it's almost time to call it a night.

Home at last. Feels so strange. Not even sure what home means anymore. I think I'm going to sleep for a day. It's 9:30pm here, about 2am there...a few days ago I was staying up till 5am or later...but suddenly the warmth of home is overwhelming.

Let's party it up here folks. Remind me what I love about this country so much.

Ola!
So today is the last day that we will spend on continental Europe, in fact we leave in about four hours. Barcelona is a fucking bizarre and fantastic place. Our first night, Brad was still a bit out of it due to his illness from the French food, so Andy, Eric and I pulled a mission with our hostel group. We went to a cool little bar that served big big pints for about €2.00, good deal! Then we went to La Paloma, an old opera house that was just an insaaaane club. There were DJs, dancers, etc etc etc. Oh and hookers too.

Doners and shwarma are key to survival here, but terrible on the digestive system.

The next night, Cip, Brandi and Mark joined us. After a ridiculous time trying to find a place to go, and after getting many beers from the street (that is to say - dudes selling beer on the street) we wandered back to La Paloma. This time though, Mark, Eric and I fucking killed it. Drank sooo much tequilla. I woke up the next morning not knowing how we got home. Gooood times.

So then our final big night in Barcelona was Saturday. We went to a very cool, if not slightly costly all you can eat buffet place that had some awesome food. Then we hit up The Black Sheep pub...get this people - €2.20 for a HALF A LITRE of beer. haha oh man, it was ridiculous. Then we wanted to go to la Piratas. It´s a bar with a PIRATE SHIP inside. And strippers, and apparently all kinds of shit. However, Eric Mark and I got screwed cuz the cabbie didnt know where it was...sooo we didnt go. Ask Brad or Andy what its like. Apparently insane. Mark, Eric and I went to a place called Jamboree...was a toootal wigger-fest and had awful music like back home. However, I salvaged the night with four shots of vodka, in quick succession.

Now, other than the nightlife, Barcelona is an amazing city. The architecture is just mind-blowing, from the fantastical Sagrada Familia, to the Olympic Stadium and gallery, to the many works of Gaudi...well the list goes on.

There is a bad side to the city though. For one, its stinking hot. STINKING hot. When we went to Jamboree we think it may have been upwards of 50 degrees in the club, just insanely hot, worse than home even on its worst days. The other bad side is by far a much more sinister problem though. Pickpocketing and crime is a huge deal here, EVERYONE told us to watch our wallets. In fact we don´t even go out with wallets because you just feel so paranoid about having anything stolen. You never take your hands out of your pockets. The first day out we were pretty paranoid about it, but now we just are smart enough not to go out with anything that really can get stolen, and really, if you arent an idiot you won´t get your stuff jacked.

But there you have it folks. Eric should already be on his way home. Brad, Andy and I are taking a flight to London today and then catching a flight to Toronto on the 17th. We shall be back that afternoon. It´s been a ridiculous six weeks. In that time I´ve broken an elbow, dislocated an elbow, had more alcohol than I probably consumed in my first two years of university, been to some of the most insane clubs and pubs imaginable, met people from all over the world, crossed an ocean, seen mountains, been to places the mind can barely even imagine...and generally just had the time of my life. But then again I suppose that was the entire point of the trip now wasn´t it? That being said, we all agree it´s time to go home. I´ve worn the same four shirts, two tshirts, two pairs of pants and two pairs of shorts now for 41 days and have two more days to deal with. My stomach, elbow, liver and body in general are screaming for a good nights rest at home, and of course we miss you all.

That, and really, we can only take being asked "Skunk, weed, junk" or "Sex, blowjob" so many times more.

Oh christ, I nearly forgot, at the Black Sheep we think we saw probably one of the best foosball players ever. Like, in the world. Period. He would WAIL on the freaking ball from the GOALKEEP and you could barely even SEE the ball let alone stop it before it pumelled the back of the goal. He would even tell you what he was going to do, and how he would score, and you couldn´t stop him. HE HAD A FOOSBALL GOLD MEDAL HANGING FROM HIS NECK. We were dying of laughter and amazement. He was the highlight of Barcelona, haha.

Okay, so there you have it. I don´t know how many posts I´ve made over the trip but this is my last official post from Europe. Again, it´s been the trip of a lifetime, and I don´t know how anything else in life could ever top the past six weeks, even considering all the things that went wrong, or the bad times. I recommend to everyone that they try to make a trip like this just once in your life, screw the money, you don´t care about the money when you are here, you just enjoy yourself and take in the world. It´s simply incredible.

Adios amigos y amigas!

Hey from Nice!!
So after one day to myself, us waylayed weary wanderers have met up again after some three weeks apart. First order of business was to hit the rather rocky beach. It has sort of fist sized stones instead of sand. Beautiful day today though. Yesterday when I arrived was rather like Toronto weather, humid and hot. Today its clear skies, nearly no humidity, and a nice breeze, somewhere near 28 degrees. Perfect weather. The water is warm, azure in colour (we are at the Cote D'Azur afterall), aannnnnd has nice pleasant big waves. Salt water, according to Brad and I though, sucks. It just sticks to you and tastes awful. Gimme Georgian Bay in August any day!

But its gorgeous here. A very different culture, many beautiful bronze bodies, and scenery like no other place I've ever visited. Its no Scotland, but a worthy addition to the trip, definitely a place to take beautiful women if you have one.

See you all from Barcelona next time!

Playing at Phillie's in Scarborough August 20th 9pm. Gonna jam with Mike, Dan, and Cy. We have no singer, we have no setlist, just have a lot of soul. Phillie's is on Markham and Lawrence in Cedar Heights Plaza. It's a small bar and apparently a lot of people from the area are going. Pope, Newman, and Barbaras crew are going for sure. They all know Mike and I have been playing together since we were little. We want to sound like Weezer and imitate Zeppelin's tones. It'll be a tiny reunion over music and drinks. Come and check it out, cheer, laugh at us, whatever your heart desires. There is also an after party down the street from bar at this girl Pauline's house. Her parties are ridiculous.

See you then.

Hey all from London. Again. This is the third time I've been here on the trip. I would have made a post from the beautiful St.Ives buuuut the entire town only could provide me with a library with four computers. And it was free for the first half hour...soooo guess what was booked all the time?

Anyway St.Ives was absolutely bloody fantastic. I couldn't believe the beaches...EIGHT MILES LONG. I took tons of photos. Beautiful place to be, lots of sunshine and just fantastic scenery. Even palm trees can grow there, crazy for England I'd say. Anyway I must keep this short, I am at the Generator Hostel and they charge even more for the Internet than the YHA did in York.

Yah, Generator hostel. The place we were originally thinking of staying. Turns out that the place is HUGE. I mean ENORMOUS. I am in room 445. There are about fifty rooms to a floor, and like 7 floors. It's nuts. Eep I gotta hurry here. Okay, I shall chat with you all later!!! Tomorrow I go to Duxford...air museum. Been three times before...just gotta go again though.

Peash out!

So an update on me, Paulitus. I visited St.George's hospital today to get my cast off. Lo and behold...they didnt have any doctors to help me so I go back tomorrow. Bleh. That kinda screws some of my plans to travel about the British countryside. I am aiming to go to Cornwall, which is in the Southwest. I will still get the opportunity to go...and I may or may not hitch a train late tomorrow and then spend a quiet evening in, and have a chance to explore fully that area of England the day after. Then head back to London or another destination on the way after. It's all in the air.

Meantime, I had a kickass weekend with my relatives in Surrey this weekend. Saw my aunt, cousins, and various family friends at a wonderful BBQ yesterday. Chilled with other family members (great aunts, cousins of various sorts, etc) the day before. All in all very chill time. And lots of food. LOTS AND LOTS of food. And drink. Oh heavens I do love drinking. Probably too much for my own good. But yah, I havent gone a single day on this trip without having at least something like 6 beers. So much for my budget goal of five a day, haha.

In any case, things are okay, I will still do some kind of tour of England, just won't be as long as I wanted. I might head into Wales too. But we'll see, time is of the essence!

Peash out!
