HOUSE 77 VERSION 2.2
Sunday, November 28, 2004

To whom it may concern,

Been a chill day at the house. My parents came by to say waddup and shop for groceries. Good thing too, our tp supply was dangerously low. Low as in nonexistent. They also hooked up a money order to the national student loans centre to clear up OSAP complications. I'm pretty sure this won't be the last headache OSAP will give me. I foresee a long drawn out relationship with OSAP.

Got more
9 Volts for my pedals :)

I made the semi-finals at Steffen's Mario Tennis Tournament! It would have been a real accomplishment except for the fact that more than half competing never touched the game. Steffen eliminated me but I gave him a run for his money. Note to Brad and Andy, Steffen is good but I think you guys can take him. He likes to play the net and leaves himself open to lobs.

Paul is dying in his room.
Andy and Brad are at 90.

House is clean once again. I count 2 days until it reverts back to normal. I wish I had a camera and make like a time lapsed animation of the house slowly getting fuct. I swear I destroy my room 5 minutes after cleaning it. My favorite part of cleaning the house is turning on the vacuum and hearing the loud chugging sound it makes cuz it has trouble picking up all the crap on the floor.

Craa-caaa-chuck-craa-caa-chuck-ca-ca-ca-ca!!!

At least it won't be disgusting for our group meeting. No there isn't a cute group member to impress. Ok so all of them are cute, but it has nothing to do with it.

Also made Andy S. a graphic for her website/essay. It has a dump truck.

Tomorrow's To Do List:
- obtain statement from NSLSC
- bake cct333 website
- eat macaroons
- throw away macaroons box
- laundry
- buy beer
- finish cct333 final project
- give random props to paul, brad, and andy

over and out.

Well, I have unplugged the Xbox. Uninstalled MSN. Dont really have any desire to play Half Life 2. Today marked the first of two twelve hour shifts. Fun times. No fun for Paul for basically two weeks now. Nothing but school. Even scheduled it.

Go school and work.

"I'm gonna roll, gonna roll, gonna roll, till I'm back on time.
Let the grass stain my clothes, gonna roll till the party starts.
And when it does I'll collapse in a pile on the floor again, again
And I'll guzzle these last eight shots for all my friends
Go home, go crazy, I'm running out of options again
I'm scared, not lazy, but maybe I'll get so wasted I wont even remember.
The keg. it's bleeding, I think I need to help it die.
I'm glad I brought my starving conscience so I can suck it dry"

I need a party to let everything out.

So, I finally downloaded episode 21 and 25 of the Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex series. Completing season one. So I watched to 24...and low and behold...24 isn't subtitled at all. Amazing. Soooo I am gonna have to download that AGAIN. Jebus. Why can't the bloody Japanese just make their damnable animes in English these days? Bah! Anyway, turns out that episode 21 was crazy-go-nuts so I am glad I didn't skip it. It had a ton of action AND a ton of very important information, including the identity (sort of) of the Laughing Man. And the Major was firing a .50 caliber sniper rifle that is bigger than me from the hip...and reloaded it with one hand. Now if that isn't sexy, I don't know what is.

Allan Estabillo knows how to treat the ladies... I mean his buddies. Chilled with him and Lucas downtown last night and hit up a random keg party. Go random! Well not really random seeing as Al and Lucas knew about it ahead of time.

I had a lot to drink that night but spaced it out and yielded great results. Al showed me all his audio toys, drank, jammed, drank some more, and headed to the party.

But yea, I didn't know what was gonna go down so I had to evaluate the situation. 2 kegs (1 empty, 1 half full), free beer, 3 DJs, all in a sexy downtown apartment with the Paris Hilton porn playing on two televisions. The situation was good. The party was fun, bunch of ppl i've never met but seemed really nice and very sociable. Even the girls puking in the bathroom were very kind. Although they weren't very talkative their lazy eyes and cumbersome movement hinted at great personalities.

Guys, we definately need to impose at Al's a lot more.

Whilst risking missing the bus, I must post about two things. First, Half-Life 2 kicks ass. Halo 2 will not be removed from its position as my favourite game (the multiplayer assures that fact) but Half-Life 2 is rapidly coming into second. Its graphics essentially are the prettiest I've ever seen. Period. That IS where it beats out Halo 2. The environments I have explored are breathtaking to say the least. And gameplay is really, really fun. I'll talk about it more when I am done the game, but yah, its super amazing, go get it kiddos.

Second, the Canadian dollar is 84 fucking cents American. EIGHTY FOUR!! That is stupidly high. Goooo Canada!

I am boned.

My mid-term is going to ass rape me tomorrow. 188 pages of unread material will surely dent my SOC317 mark. Ok, dent is an understatement. The word I'm looking for is devastate.

SOC317 Industrial Sociology course description:
This course will survey classical theories of devastating your CGPA. SOC317 will also reintroduce practices of crying and bitching.
Prerequisite: A high spirit to be crushed into a million pieces

The mid-term review reads:
No study aids are permitted. You have 2 hours to complete your mid-term. Please bring your student cards and prefered anal lubrication. You're boned.

Okay, so I meant to do this yesterday but somehow got dragged away from the Internet *cough* by something I wanted to do instead.

Mainly, Halo 2. Okay, so the game is fantastic. Graphically it's taken leaps and bounds over the first. The texturing is gorgoes, the colours are absolutely breathtaking, the models are out of this world, and most importantly - the environments are absolutely beautiful. I can't stress this enough, the places that the Master Chief plays are ridiculously original and amazing. The multiplayer levels are all absolutely fantastic and have tons of little secrets to be found. But the real show-stealer is the campaign levels. They are fantastic. When the Master Chief gets dropped down along with a platoon of ODSTs, the "world" they are surrounded by is lush, realistic, and simply gorgeous. Love the environments. You are totally immersed in them.

Gameplay wise, the original and the sequel are indeed quite different, but strangely familiar in many regards. We were able to jump right into the game with little difficulty and immediately know what to do. The major differences are the enemies, the weapons, the environments, and also you no longer have health, but your shields charge up much faster.

Speaking of guns, dual-wielding is fun. There is a definitely balancing act done by Bungie to make the weapons specific to different roles. The Battle Rifle is great far a medium to long distance, but when pited against two SMGs is quite useless up close. Likewise, the weapons are all checked and balanced beautifully so that knowledge of what does what when and where is key to winning.

The new enemies are unique and bizarre, and pose new challenges not present in the first game. The Brute in particular is a strange new twist on things. The presence of Jackal snipers, upgraded (and WAY bigger) hunters, and new vehciles to deal with all make for a fantastic upgrade to the original.

The multiplayer is the next key thing. It rocks. Honestly it's so much fun. The stats tracking is fantastic and easily searchable online. The games are fast paced and you can clearly see that those who are best at the game win more than those who aren't as skilled - there is very little in the way of cheap shots or game flaws that way. I have played about 30 games now and its a blast (especially when I am winning a lot of my games).

My only major complaint is one which is popping up across the planet. Mainly - the campaign ending comes too quick, and it feels as though a level is missing. We have come up with three thoughts on this - one being that perhaps if the campaign is beaten on legendary you get to see the extra level. Perhaps also downloadable content will appear online from Bungie - and was done on purpose to keep the ending under wraps. Finally, it could be that they are saving what seems as a logical ending as the third installment of the Halo series - although this is a particularly dissatisfying possibility.

All in all though - this is my favourite game of all time. We beat the campaign in seven hours, I am playing through it again and next week I will start it on legendary. I cannot wait!

Oh my,
Ctrl-Alt-Del has done it again. It describes me perfectly right now.

I think I'll go play Halo for the last time in a while.

....my essay is done.
Work is done for the week.
My Xbox is sort of fixed but sort of not.
I am tired but I can nap.
I will have my hands on Halo 2 in fifteen hours. FIFTEEN HOURS PEOPLE.
And then three glorious days will begin.
*single tear of joy rolls down cheek*

18 hours and 14 minutes away from having an entire season of Aeon Flux. 3 hours and 10 minutes away from watching episode 29 of Samuri Pizza Cats. After watching Watership Down last night I need another infusion of celluloid heroin. That movie is messed up. I always thought rabbits were peaceful animals that hopped and humped all day. Now I know they're all psychotic and willing to sacrifice their lives for some tail (excuse the pun). Yea it's just a cartoon, but no cartoon has ever steered me in the wrong direction.

I consider cartoons a reliable source of information. Those G.I. Joe PSA's taught me CPR in 30 seconds, prolly way faster than any course St.John Ambulance can ever teach! Care Bears taught me to love, otherwise the Care-O-Meter gets brukk and Braveheart Lion and co. come and beat ur ass down. Thanks to Undergrads I know alcohol induced hallucinations are a normal thing and a healthy part of the University experience.

This need for cartoons isn't all that bad. Just take a look at exihibit A (aka Brad Cale). As I type this he is pacing the house muttering, "Less than 30 hours away from Halo 2." If I took a sharpie pen and wrote Halo 2 on a CD I'm pretty sure he'd grab it from my hands and jam it into his xbox. Then he and Paul would wait 7657677 hours on the phone to bitch Microsoft out cuz it didn't work.

Piss out. Canadian Labour History is moaning my name. I can't wait to finish this paper and slam it on my prof's desk yelling, "IT'S HISTORY!"

Dear Microsoft, and those whom this might concern:

I purchased my Xbox in September of this year. I have played on my roommates since January 2002, and honestly I loved it. I had never experienced gameplay like Halo's, and the system was fantastic. Now, my roommate's was one of the first batches of Xbox, and it died mysteriously one day. We called tech support, within about two days a box arrived at our door. He sent if off and about a week later it returned working beautifully, and it has not had a problem since.

With Halo 2 approaching I finally bit the bullet and bought my own system. I played Halo religiously on it, and at the beginning of October I bought the latest Splinter Cell. The problems started then, however. My Xbox would rarely be able to boot to any games - saying it could not read the disc. Considering maybe only one in five boots was successful, I was concerned, and decided to take advantage of the warranty. So I called, and they told me a box would be sent in 2-4 days. "Fantastic!" I thought. I'll have it repaired and back before Halo 2 no problem. Well, about two weeks later, the box had not arrived. So I called, and they informed me the package had been sent on October 11th. The date at that time was the 20th, and they told me something clearly had been messed up in the system, and that they'd send me a second.

Well today is November 6th, and to date, I've recieved neither box. My Xbox actually stopped having trouble reading discs, and so I didn't care anymore. Today though it gave me a bit of trouble, stating it couldnt read my precious Halo disc, and I decided to call and ask what happened to the boxes. So I called - I explained, and say I dont care about the boxes, and asked when my warranty ran out just so I knew. They told me I'd be put on hold. Okay whatever...then they tell me they dont know where the boxes are or where they went. Or even if they got shipped. "Okay...I'd like to look into the extended warranty." They tell me I'll be on hold again. "Okay...." FInally they come back and ask me to confirm that I'd like another box sent. I explain again I don't care about the boxes. So they ask if I want the warranty - I still love my Xbox so I say yes, just so I can make sure it's safe for the future. But what's this? They can't actually seem to put a warranty on because the last issue I had with them hasn't been resolved - they put me on hold.

Twenty five minutes later - and a switch from one portable phone to the other, and I am still on hold. And not the fun hold that has the cool sounding guys voice. No, instead its silence with "Please stay on hold" every thirty seconds or so. Twenty five minutes of a woman from an abyss stating "Please stay on hold." Twenty five minutes for a guy to talk to his manager. Twenty five minutes for them to talk about a situation I've now explained some four times or five times. Twenty five minutes.

I hang up.

I call again, this time instead of Frank, I am talking to Paul. Hi Paul, how can you not help me today? What's that? You need to know what happend again? Sure no problem. Fifth or sixth time I've explained it to you guys! Ever thought of taking a note of it? What's that? Do I want another box sent? No. No thank you. No more boxes. Would I like the extended warranty? Why yes, yes I would. You want my contact info again? Sure no problem, it's not like I haven't already given it enough times. Wait. What is that? Your system isn't working because the times in the past I dealt with you haven't been resolved? Big surprise. On hold? Sure no problem.

Five minutes pass.

Hi, yah. Yah I'd like the warranty. I'm sorry what? Your computer system is being upgraded? Not even your supervisor can help me? You are calling me back? In half an hour to forty-five minutes? Just to get the warranty? "Uhm, actually, no. Now I am filing an official complaint."

Ladies and gentlemen of the Xbox community - I have spent over $400 (Canadian) on an Xbox, Xbox Live!, and games. I am willing to shell out another $25 or so to buy an extended warranty. I had no problem with the first box for my repairs didn't arrive. I didn't even care when the second one didn't come. Heck, I didn't care about being put on hold the first, second, and even third time. I didn't care that I had to call again. I didn't care that I got put on hold. I didn't care that I got asked for my personal information, my reason for calling, or the fact that I didnt want a blasted cardboard box to get my Xbox repaired five times.

I just care that Xbox doesn't seem to care at all either. In a week my friend had his shipped off and repaired. That was two years ago. Now they cannot even gouge more money out of me because their computer system is down.

Do yourself a favour - if your Xbox has a problem - hit it with a hammer. Or drop it on your foot repeatedly until it blleds - you'll get the same satisfaction as I got with Xbox Customer Service.

Chilling at the library. I've been here for like 3 hours now preparing for yet another group assignment. Kinda thought I'd be lacking in material but I just met up with them and seem to be on top of things. Kinda funny how we're studying stress and conflict (I think we're all pros with the topics at hand). I just wanna go home and chill. The weather is shite and is influencing my happy go lucky vibe. The UTM goodness continues this weekend with a 6-8 page Canadian Labour History paper. Hopefully I haven't overlooked any important dates that'll potentially screw me to hell and back.

As I sit here contemplating the fact that the future of the world will soon be decided by a very small margin of votes, I am absolutely amazed and terrified by the Internet.

I sit here, looking at CNN, BBC and CBC. All give data in the form of flash maps for the election. All are updated regularly. And yet, none are in synch with one another. Their analysis systems are obviously quite different. As for which is correct, I have no idea. But its absolutely fascinating to watch this unfold over the web. Beyond online games, I have never been so engrossed by something unwinding in realtime online.

I think this is well and truly the first demonstration of the capabilities of the Internet in terms of information conveyance. At my fingertips are data for the states, senate votes, and even county votes, etc etc. Its insane.

Wow.
